Support BeamFrom: bob.berlin@comcast.net Category: Structural Email: bob.berlin@comcast.net Remote Name: 65.56.85.32 Date: 18 Jan 2007 Time: 11:32 PM
CommentsI would like to remove a supporting walll in the basement of a single story rambler. The house is 24 ft. wide the joist are 2x6 16 inches o/c and they overlap on the supporting wall. I would like to know what size and thicknes H beam I would need to support the 16 foot sapn and what I would need for support posts? The beam would need to suppport the floor above ( kitchen & living rm.) the ceiling load of those rooms and I guess part of the roof load as the rafters are not truus rafters.I would like to keep the heith of the beam under 8 inches due to lack of head room. If I need to I could set a support in the middle of the 16ft. span in order to minimze the size of the beam. Please e-mail me with any additional questions and Thanks for any assistance you may have.
