Steel I beam strength

I would like to replace a steel I beam in a basement with one of less dept in order to gain needed headroom. The existing beam is 8" high, 4" wide and 1/4" thick. I would like to replace it with a beam which is only 6" high but of equal strength. I am spanning 12'.
