Question: I am an owner-builder and would like to install rain gutters on my home, such as copper or galvanized steel. Is this something I can do on my own or is it best left to a professional gutter installation crew?

Builders Websource® Answer: Fabricating and installing rain gutters is possible for the motivated do-it-yourself homebuilder. As with any trade, you'll need the proper tools and training to do the job right the first time. The primary consideration for the owner-builder is related to injury  risk on the roof during the installation phase, particularly if your home is a two-story structure. Builders Websource offers an excellent video on the subject by master metalsmith Stephen Duncan. This 90-minute DVD shows all the key steps to planning, building, and installing gutter for residential or light commercial structures.
