Adding Equity by finishing basement

I was lured in by this question someone had posted: "I was wondering about how much does finishing a basement add to the value of lets say a ranch? I have a 20x40 Ranch with a totally unfinished basement and was just curious as I have a few people telling me by just putting up dry wall/drop cieling carpet, making it into a game room, a large entertainment room that you will only see a few thousand dollar equity rise, but thne other people tell me you can get an average of 12-15K rise in the value of the house from doing that because you are doubling the "living space" of the ranch... I am a first time homeowner, so dont know what to believe, I dont that it doubles the living space, but yeah it would be alot nicer to have it finished. I know I can't put in a 4th bedroom because of the septic codes but was thinking of adding a finished room or something. Thanks!" I wanted to know the answer, so at the top of the page where it said "If you find the answer to this question useful, kindly CLICK TO PAY here." So, unfortunately, I clicked and i payed the $2.95 and all it did was send me to a page with many other posted questions and concerns but no real answers. So I am wondering first, what exactly did I pay for, and second, did anyone answer this gentleman's question and if so, could I be let in on the secret? Thanks!
