We own a 1970's, single story, single family home in Modesto, Ca We have a two car garage that has 2 individual single wooden garage doors with a vertical support post dividing the two. I want to remove the support post and open up the garage door framing to accomodate a single roll up two car garage door. My thinking is that I may need to install a new header. Question: when I remove the vertical center support post, should I expect the frame to sag? In addition, how do I keep the frame supported while installing the new header? Wouldn't any supports be in the way?
