I just moved into a new house. The entrance into the house from the garage is up 2 steps but is also 2 steps down from the main level once in the house. You enter into a landing approx 6 feet by 12 feet which also has a small 2 piece bathroom. Because of this landing area being down from the main floor, it protrudes into the basement ceiling space and creates a crawlspace. The inside corner of the landing is supported with 2 spruce 2X4 nailed together and toenailed into the floor joist. I see all other supports in the basement being metal. Should this wood be used to support this floor? If so, shouldn't it be pressure treated so the moisture from the floor doesnt affect the wood? Shouldn't there be some other form of attachment other than 2 nails....some sort of bracket????
