moisture and mold discovered on pre-tile job

We recently bought a 7 year old home in Northern Nevada. I noticed floor warpage before purchasing the home and had the inspector check it out, but in the report he marked that it "passed" inspection. Four months later when we had tile setters ready to replace the vinyl with tile they discovered moisture and black mold under two layers of vinyl flooring. We called several repair contractors and they put the fear of mold-gods in my husband. To make a long story short (minus a hazmat team) he tore up the bathroom floor, but not under the tub. He decided that we are handy enough to replace it ourselves. We've done some research and are awaiting your expert advice.
