I want to build a sunken patio along one of the basement walls of my house. Building code requires 30 inches of soil to be over the footer in our city. What's interesting is that I have a one car garage that ramps into the opposite side of my house. There is no 30 inches of soil covering the footer on this side. I've since found an alternative that meets code, I would need 18 inches of 2 inch foam insulation up from the base of the footer, and it has to project outward 2 ft away from the basement wall (in an L shaped configuration). In this sunken patio area, I want to face the front of the basement wall with stone. If I cover the lower portion with 2 inches of foam, what do I need to do to secure the foam, and then overlay it to grout the stone facing, and, how do I secure it to the basement wall? I know for a fact that the entrance to the garage mentioned is not built in this fashion. There are no cracks / no signs of heaving anywhere on this side of the house, and there's a sump for the drive less than 2 feet away. Thanks for your time, Mike
