You need to go to your local builders supply house (not Home Depot or Ace, places actual builders get their lumber from). Bring with you the following information: (1)the length and width of your house (2)if there is a wall above the beam which you want to remove the post from (3)you need to determine if that wall is load bearing (4)if the wall is load bearing then you need to know what it supports(5)what joist span you have on either side of the beam and what size joists they are. The builders suplly house should be able to tell you what size LVL beams to use bu I can tell you now that thay are gonna be huge to be able to span 24'. You more than likely will have to remove the existing beam, cut the joists back far enough to slip in a three wide LVL beam flush with the tops of the joists, then install joist hangers to support the joists. It is alot of work but it can be done. If you can't find a supply house to give you the info just e-mail the above info to me and I'll have my supply house figure it out. Good luck, Aaron
