Question: I have sun-baked decals on my RV and need a way to romove them from the gel- coated fiberglass. Any ideas? I have scraped with a bowl scraper but it goes inch by inch and the RV is 35 ft long. Is there a chemical I can use without ruining the fiberglass?

Answer (Anonymous): Oven cleaner may work for removing old vinyl decals. With fiberglass, be careful and don't leave it on too long, as it may start to damage the gel coat. Another option is to use a heat gun to soften the vinyl and remove it with your scraper. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to remove stickers; it is a tedious job.

Decal removal from an RV is not that difficult, just time consuming on gelcoat. A paint supplier has what's called a rubber wheel that fits on a drill. Don't apply too much pressure -- and use a slow to medium speed. Use PPG DX330 FOR clean up.

Builders Websource® Note: PPG DX330 Wax and Grease Remover (national stock number 7930PDX330)i s a powerful solvent used by professional auto body shops and should only be used in a well ventilated area in strict accordance with manufacturer instructions. According to the MSDS, PPG DX 330 contains volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as follows:

Ingredient Name (PPG DX 330) Max % CAS Number
CYCLOHEXANE, METHYL- 10 108-87-2
BENZENE, METHYL- (Toluene) 5 108-88-3
