Generally, any modification to your home that involves the addition of a bathroom, new walls, expansions, etc. will require approval from the zoning and building departments. You'll need basic plans that show the existing structure and the proposed alterations. Doing this without approval could yield trouble down the road, especially when you sell the home. Our advice: Don't build illegal additions. Do it right and go through the proper process to secure the required permits, inspections and so forth.
