Without having a detailed load drawing including point loads, we cannot compute a specific beam. However, a steel "S" beam 3-3/8" wide x 6" deep would be sufficient to carry a combined live+dead load of 1500 plf over an 8-foot span. This is likely more than conservative. Key attention should be given to anchoring details. We strongly urge that you consult with a local structural engineer who can make exact calculations based on your as-built conditions. The engineer can also provide anchoring details for the end columns, as well as the joists. This is a fairly trick procedure that will require intermediate bracing of the floor above.
