Re: using osb instead of gypsum wallboardFrom: info@builderswebsource.com Category: Other/Misc Remote Name: 63.198.181.43 Date: 01 Oct 2002 Time: 11:09 PM
CommentsOSB (oriented strand board) and gypsum are not generally interchangeable for sheathing applications. While gypsum does provide some minimal shear strength, it is not a substitute for plywood or OSB, which are much stronger. Furthermore, when finishing the interior of a home, gypsum provides fire protection when properly installed. We recommend that you use OSB or plywood for shearwall reinforcement, and cover that with wallboard on the interior. Builders Websource.
