Steel Beam vs. Wood Beam in AdditionFrom: dave@aac-usa.com CommentsI am adding an addition to me existing home. It is a ranch style hone that had a small porch under the same roof line as the rest of the house. I want to extend the porch out at a 90 degree angle. The roof (5/8 pitch) will meet my existing roof at that angle forming two valleys. The issue is as follows: Where the new addition connects to the house there is a beam made of two 2x8's nailed together. We want to replace this with a steel beam and I am having trouble specifying it. Any ideas on how to spec it? Best Regards,
 Dave
