Foundation LevelingFrom: bwatsky@swbell.net CommentsI live in the Houston, TX area. I have a foundation settling problem evidenced by drywall cracking, corner molding separation, sticking doors, and minor ceramic tile cracking. I have had estimates to level the slab by the local big 3 companies. I have gotten 3 different approaches to solve my problem. I talked to a structural engineer for an independent assessment and he advises that the big three use a technique (driven concrete column sections) that don't work well and advises to go with bell bottom piers. Also, since we are into a 3rd year of dry weather, I should wait until we get back to a more typical weather pattern before doing anything. I have noticed since having a wet March 2001, that some of the cracks and doors have moved towards healing although not totally. My questions: 1. Do you agree with the engineer on leveling techniques? 2. How about waiting on weather? Your comments appreciated!
