Concrete Pavers

My wife and I just bought a house that has a very large and ugly concrete slab for a back porch. I want to put concrete pavers down over the concrete to enhance the look and feel of the area. Removing the concrete isn't an option for we have removed a 3 foot deep portion and still haven't found dirt. I am looking for some instruction to installing these pavers on concrete. I have heard of laying down a 1 1/2 inch layer of sand then installing the pavers,  but I have also heard of using mortar. Any suggestions?
