opening up wall between kitchen and living room

I have a loadbearing wall between my kitchen and livingroom that I want to open up. I don't want to remove the whole wall just put a opening in it app. 3'X4'. I plan on leaving a 12"-15" post at the doorway and only remove what few 2x4's I have to. The overall lenght of the wall is 90". Is this going to be harder than I think?
