If you're looking for a powerful and cost-effective drawing package for under $100, I highly recommend Autosketch by AutoDesk. I personally used this package ten years ago to design our 2,500 square foot house, including floor plans, elevation views, bathrooms, etc. However, it is a drafting package...it doesn't do the design for you.

Now, if you're looking for something that's more of a home design suite, there are solutions such as Home Architect and others. Some of these packages are very handy as well. You might consider these in addition to Autosketch.

Most of these packages are very cost effective and well worth their investment. You'll save many times their cost by working through design iterations before you build!
