220V available in US-homes ?

I will move from Europe to the USA. I own several 220V appliances/power tools. Is it possible to have a few 220V outlets/lines installed or does it exceed the replacement cost for new appliances? What about a "power up" (110 to 220 Volt) converter?

Regards,

H. Dorsch
