Load bearing wall or notFrom: jprince@potomacsupply.com CommentsHow can I easily determine if a wall is a load bearing wall or not. I have a wall I want to remove to open up a staircase and cannot decide if it is structurally a good idea or not. I don't mind installing a header if necessary, but I would prefer to do it only if needed. This would lower my opening more than I preferred. Also, what would be a good size header if needed. The span would be about 10 feet and it is at the side of a stairway opening.
