how do I quiet hammering in my plumbing ?

I just replaced a section a galvanized hot water pipe with copper. Now, when I turn on the hot water of my bathtub, which is upstream of the pipe replacement, I notice 2 new things.

First, the hot water pressure is less and, second, I hear hammering in the pipes when I try to turn the hot water to full. I have an amercian standard faucet with this pressure balance feature.

What can I do to get rid of the hammering and return my water pressure to its fomer state ?
